DENTAL ROOT CANAL

Fairmont Dental is proud to perform impeccable Root Canals in London, ON. Root canal therapy is when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay, infection, or trauma. If you don’t want to lose your tooth, then this kind of surgery can fix it. You can also have the infection removed and clean away things that are bad for your tooth. This will keep it healthy and help it to stay strong so you don’t lose it!

Root canal treatment is fairly successful, but it still needs to be monitored carefully. To make the tooth last a long time, you will need to plan a restoration. This includes crowns, onlays or inlays depending on the situation. If the tooth gets infected again, you might have to re-treat the tooth to rectify the situation.

SIGNS INDICATING YOU MAY NEED A ROOT CANAL

  • Finding an abscess, pimple or growth on your gums

  • Pain and/or sensitivity to hot and cold
  • General tenderness and swelling of the gums

THE PROCESS

A root canal procedure may require multiple appointments. It can be done by a dentist or endodontist (a specialist).

With rotary instruments, the procedure is faster and more efficient. The tooth will be numbed with medicine. A rubber dam will be put on the tooth to keep it dry and free of saliva. Then an opening will be made on top of the tooth and a series of files are placed in one at a time to remove everything inside like pulp, nerve tissue, bacteria and decay.

Once your tooth is cleaned, it will be sealed with a filling. If you need more appointments, then a temporary filling will go on the tooth.

After one week, the roots of the tooth and inside cavities are filled with special dental materials. The opening on the top of your teeth will also have a filling put in place. And if you need root canal treatment for any teeth, then they will get crowns put on them to protect them from breaking as well as to restore their function.

After treatment, your tooth will still hurt. But it will get better over time as the tooth heals and the inflammation begins to subside.

You will be given instructions by the dentist after each visit. Good dental care and regular visits to the dentist can help keep your root canal treatment from getting worse.
